Broad Leys is one of the most important Arts and Crafts houses designed by CFA Voysey. Lying in an idyllic position overlooking Windermere, it was built for the wealthy Yorkshire colliery owner Arthur Currer Briggs and his wife Helen in 1899, and is now home to Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club. This book tells the story of Broad Leys from it's inception; the design and building of the house, the social history of its various owners through the ages including their many social connections within the area, and how boating on the lake has been very much a central theme. It also charts the fascinating history of Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club from its humble beginnings at Bowness Bay in the mid 1920's to the prestigious club it is today with its many illustrious world water speed record holders. In total the book has 194 pages over 14 chapters, features never before published pictures of Broad Leys, a selection of photographs of all Club activities and retails at £29. 1 A Villa In The English Lakes 2 Boating On Windermere 3 The Arts and The Crafts: 4 Arthur Currer Briggs of Broad Leys 5 The Building of Broad Leys 6 Broad Leys In Its Heyday 1909 - 1912 7 Beatrix Potter and her family 8 Broad Leys in a time of change 1906-25 9 The Windermere Motor Boat Club 10 The Bowness Bay Days 1925-51 11 WMBRC at Broad Leys 1951 onwards 12 Records - The Quest for Sheer Speed 13 WMBRC at Barrow 14 Broad Leys: The house and the club today
