Synopsis
Location: Mallorca, Spanish Balearic Islands. Time: Late summer, present day. Question: Who or what links the bizarre murders of three men – one an influential British multi-millionaire financier – whose corpses turn up in the space of 48 hours, all bearing the hallmarks of professional ‘hits’? It’s the task of Inspector Mercedes Ibanez and DCI Harry Hudson to find the answer. However, the haughtily abrasive Ibanez, not for nothing nicknamed La Condesa (The Countess) by her browbeaten colleagues, and Hudson, a tetchy, veteran British copper, don’t so much collude as collide as they try to piece together a jigsaw of disjointed clues. Ranged against them are underworld fixer, Cardones, and his thuggish henchman, Teo, who stand to scoop a fortune by aiding jihadi terror cell leader Omar in his assignment to launch a suicide bombing ‘spectacular’ intended to annihilate thousands. Meanwhile, scheming from the sidelines is Spanish intelligence chief Miguel Pinya and CIA agent Dan Millard, whose agenda is diametrically at odds with the civil police. But who will triumph in a spellbinding race against time, laced with twists, intrigue and lethal double-dealing.
