Father Crimmins is a parish priest, former collegiate basketball rival of Carroll Dorsey, and now about to be indicted for murder by District Attorney Douglas Turner. Turner, a political enemy of Dorsey's father, is out to take some political revenge and the murder victim is the husband of the woman with whom Crimmins is having an affair. Dorsey is brought in by the diocese to find an alternate theory for the murder but discovers a parish and a family that has much to keep hidden.
Carroll Dorsey's the genuine article and so is his world.
