Jesse Bowman Young was an officer in the battle. While serving as First Lieutenant, Company B, Eighty fourth Pennsylvania Infantry, He was detached from a regiment, at the opening of the campaign, two days after he had left their winter rendezvous at Falmouth, and was assigned to duty at the headquarters of that great soldier, Brig. Gen. Andrew A. Humphreys, as assistant provost marshal, Second Division, Third Army Corps. In this capacity he took part in the campaign, his duties on the march and in battle gave him unusual opportunities, to be in personal touch with the great movements of the war.
